Leisurely walk around citadel in Spandau, puppet theatre at the citadel and playground at Koeltzepark.

U7 Zitadelle

The citadel in Spandau (1) at the west city-limit is the oldest example of architecture of Berlin. The fortress that is encircled by water has been the home for many monarchs in the past centuries where they have defended against raids behind its bulky walls. The emblem of Spandau, the Juliusturm (Tower of Julius) has even been temporarily a dungeon.
Nowadays you have the chance to gaze here the colourful goings of numerous craftspeople and artists in the citadel. On your walkabout through the particular spires and dungeons, you will go on a journey into the past passing big cannons and spiral staircases. As the casemates of the citadel are the home of the biggest bat-population in Europe, you may have the chance to see one. You will also have the possibility to dine mediaeval, e.g. in a previous chamber of gunpowder.

If you and your kids love the theatre, you can visit the puppet theatre at the citadel. The stage is located in house No. 4, one floor above the draughtsman for musical instruments. Fairy stories and tales are performed with lovingly designed glove puppets and marionettes. It is a pleasure for every visitor - young and old!
The last proposal for the your stay in Spandau is the playground at Koeltzepark (2). You take the underground from Zitadelle Spandau to the stop Rathaus Spandau and afterwards you take the bus No. M45 to Predigergarten.

The playground is situated amidst a park and here are no limits for romping and having fun, e.g. building little barrages, scrambling on the Matterhorn of Spandau, a climbing-stone or making use of the cableway or sexangle-swing.

Take the underground U7 from Zitadelle to the final station Rathaus Spandau. Change to bus M45 direction Johannesstift till stop Predigergarten. Driving time: 10 min.
