Jewish Berlin
In search of Jewish life in Berlin

Jewish Museum · © www.aac-berlin.deBerlin is a city where the delicate threads of Jewish history and culture interweave in such a way that they form a complex Jewish panorama. Some places stand as a stark reminder of the obliteration of what was once vibrant Jewish life. Examples are the Wannsee villa, the loading ramp at Grunewald S-Bahn station or the "Topography of Terror" permanent exhibition. Others represent testimonies of the eventful Jewish past - the – Ephraim-Palais, the New Synagogue, the Jewish cemeteries in Mitte and Weißensee - but also centres of contemporary Jewish life: the Jewish Community Centre, the Central Consistory of Jews in Germany, seven active synagogues, the Jewish "Volkshochschule" and the Jewish Museum.

Today, attitudes towards Jewish culture are a touchstone of the broader community's tolerance. At the same time, the ever growing numbers of Jewish community members are tangible evidence of Berlin's renaissance as a vivid living site of Jewish life.
